Obituary of Stella Shupenia

SHUPENIA, Stella January 9, 1934 – July 26, 2025 Stella Shupenia, 91, of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on July 26, 2025 after a brief stay in the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton. Prayer Service will be held at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 10825 – 97 Street NW Edmonton at 7:00 p.m.on Friday, August 8, 2025 with Father Jim Nakonechny officiating. A private niche ceremony will be held at St Michael’s Cemetery in Edmonton at a later date. Stella was born in the Holden area to William and Nancy Paskoski on January 9, 1934. She relocated to Edmonton with her parents where she completed high school at Victoria Composite High School. She worked for the Federal Government for many years and upon her retirement from the government she was a bookkeeper for Walelectric for a few years. Stella was an avid sports enthusiast. She enjoyed watching football, hockey and especially curling. She participated in both curling and golfing leagues. Stella is survived by two sisters-in-law: Hazel Mazur and Vera Matviw both of Calgary, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, both parents, all her siblings and their spouses. Memorial donations may be made to the “Heart & Stroke Foundation www.heartandstroke.com.”
