To the family members of Helen. I learned of Helen's passing yesterday, and since then I have thought about times that Helen's life brought appreciation for me... to who she was and what she stood for. First and foremost was family. I remembered a ritual that I think she repeated every year and probably organized, of remembering those family members who have passed before. It was a time when the family gathered for an outdoor get-togethers' with a campfire, roasting marshmallows, drinking hot cocoa, and reminiscing. I had never heard of such a meaningful way of honoring loved ones that have passed before us. Also, She and Ed were always showing others the art of perogie making, and passing on time honored Ukranian traditions. She was always generous and kind to me, and willing to go the extra effort if anyone, including me, should need to ask her a favor. I admired her wisdom and quick humor. She will be missed by all, and the world is going to seem empty without her.
