Our sincerest condolences to Jim and family. Shirley recalls the great times she had with Marlene in her hair dressing shop in Two Hills. More time was spent there than going to school. We had good times with Marlene and Jim in our younger days, we all got married and moved on in our different life paths. Marlene was fun to be around with and she will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace.

Marlene Olmstead had a heart of gold. She was a very giving person helping in any way she could and checking in with a telephone call always with a comment such as “Are your fingers broken? I guess I should have called more often. She was always very welcoming frequently asking when we were going to come over.
She wasn’t afraid to give advice. I recall when I used to fill her orders of fresh cut flowers such as sunflowers, Zinnias, etc. from the field for the flower shop called “The Jungle” she would always advise me that my prices were too low. I forgot her exact words.
When Marlene heard about the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada – Alberta Provincial Executive (UWAC-APE) invitation to bring embroidered pillows and cushions as part of a project to celebrate their 85th Anniversary she undertook to collect many cushions from relatives and friends. The guest speaker at the celebration was Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn. Marlene and Jim delivered these cushions and pillows to our house and these became part of the record for Larisa Sembaliuk Chelady’s project her “My 1000 Pillow Project” as part of the requirements to-wards her Master’s Degree from the University of Alberta.
Those cushions and pillows made a wonderful display and very successful 85th Anniversary and also became part of UWAC-APE’s publication called Memories. Marlene thank you for the memories of your laughter and fun time.
We will miss you.

Auntie Marlene was always a wonderful example of love and kindness. Her door was always open, she was always willing to share a smile and a laugh. She was an amazing role model and will be missed dearly.

Around the time of 'aunty' Marlene's wedding, she shared with me that she was nervous because she couldn't cook. What???? She became the ultimate connoisseur of planning and gourmet cooking for myriads of family and friends! There was always food and retaining the Ukrainian dishes was prime. And then there was the artistry of flowers....

The best thing that happened to me was Marlene asking her mom "she followed me home, mom, can we keep her?". Friends eternally.
