Lois was a special person. She was real. Probably my first encounter with her was on the doorstop of her home. I was campaigning door-to-door in the provincial election in 1975, pregnant and cold. Without any hesitation she invited me in to warm-up and presented a friendly face and open mind to listening to whatever I had to say.
Shortly thereafter she called me as to whether I would be able to teach piano to her children. There began our relationship and friendship. Her support was always there for recitals and for walking little Katharine to the school after school-hours for her lessons. Of course, her dog was there with her on those walks and many more times at the Co-op or in the community doing her errands. She judged the written work at the Exhibit Hall at the local Vegreville Fair so we would chat at those times as well as at the stationery store at the Vegreville Observer.
You were very lucky to have such a loving and caring and intelligent Mother. My impression was that her children were truly her pride and joy and subsequently her grand-children. She always wished the very best for everyone and strived to improve and influence her community wherever she could.

David & I wish to send our sincere condolences to you all, Hobe, Jane, Margaret , A.L., & Kate
and all your families. This world has lost a most wonderful person in your Mom. She was a fantastic teacher
& friend to us both. So many good memories!! I used to enjoy meeting her out walking one of her dogs or
riding her bike and we always had time to stop for a quick visit, such nice visits I must say. A.L. it was wonderful when
you brought your Mom down to Veg. & I happened to spot her sitting on a bench outside the B. of M. What a lovely
surprise and of course a happy visit!! Keep all those precious memories in your hearts, Hugs to all, Joyce Ziegler

Growing up in Vegreville I have many memories and a couple of visuals come to mind..the Pysanka and your Mom riding her bike around town. Your Mom (and Dad) were always friendly and had a smile on their face when I saw them when I was growing up and later when I came back to visit my parents. My Dad always had such high praise for both your Mom and Dad and often said that the Horton children grew up to be such good and nice adults,a testament to your parents. Cherish all the memories of your Mom, she was a great person! 'Grief never ends-but it changes. It's a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith...It is the price of love."
Our thoughts are with all of you,
Michelle, Shaun and Shannon Haubrick
