Some great memories I have with Grandpa
• Cold Lake - I think back about the times we used to spend going for visits from Fort Mac to Cold Lake. Not sure which lake it was but I remember being out fishing and the boat broke down. I remember watching Grandpa as he jumped in the water to repair a problem with the prop. ( caught a few Jack that day ) Even back then I noticed how much effort he was willing to put in to help make sure things go to plan. As a kid I remember how cool it felt waiting and then seeing him come home from work in his uniform.
• Annapolis Valley – Remembering the first time we went for a visit to Grandma and Grandpas place in the valley was awesome. I remember when we went there and how excited I was to visit. Even in Annapolis I still have memories of watching him pull into the driveway and walk in wearing his uniform. Grandpa knew that I liked to go fishing and he found a fish farm to take me. That is an afternoon that I’ve never forgot, I caught fish after fish after fish…. Grandpa would hang out in the living room, sitting in his chair while I watched shows like Knight rider and Dukes of Hazard. I remember following Grandpa around the property when he was working on projects. There was a visit during the holidays and there were a few of us out cross country skiing. One of the bindings broke on one of the skis I was using, Grandpa fixed it and I was able to get back out. Not sure what year it was but I remember a camping trip I went on with Grandma and Grandpa. There were lots of times in the Valley when it felt like a home away from home.
• Vegreville – When we moved to Veg and lived with Grandma and Grandpa things were different. Grandpa was now retired and decided to take on a new venture running a motel. The motel kept him more than busy. Between the house and the motel there was always a project on the go. The times in Veg were sometimes difficult but I do remember having some quality conversations with Grandpa that helped me through that time. It was then that I was old enough to recognize how large of a roll he was playing in my life. Grandpa had a work ethic like no other, he was always working on a project and was sometimes misunderstood when he tried to help out. He used to give me a hard time when I would sneak my Moms car out at night (can’t blame him for that)
There are lots of great memories I have with Grandpa. The words he got up and spoke at my wedding were unexpected and appreciated. Grandpa has always had his own way of communicating. Grandpa was the kind of man that served our country, volunteered in his community and loved his family.
Loving memories
Cass
