I wish to express my deepest condolences to the Mazankowski family.
I wish to join my colleagues as former members of parliament in honouring the late Don Mazankowski.
In my six years as Parliamentary Secretary to various ministers with 10 years in the House of Commons and having served on various committees’ defense and external affairs, but especially the Transport Committee, it has been a privilege working alongside Don.
Where I first met Don, affectionately known as “Maz”, as a newcomer to the house in the mid-70s, I knew that I was in the presence of a very fine gentleman.
Don was welcoming, friendly, and supportive, but equally important - he always with a friendly smile, which I truly appreciated.
I just wish to bear witness joining others in paying tribute to Don as a man of the house who worked amicably with both sides of the aisle throughout his career.
It is always difficult to find appropriate words at this time, however, I wanted to salute a parliamentary friend and good colleague of the House of Commons.
Farewell to a great Canadian: Don Mazankowski, a gentleman,
Maurice Harquail, F.M.P.

Lorraine and Family,
It is with heavy hearts that we heard about Don's passing and our condolences to all of you at this time. We will never forget the numerous visits that Don made to see my dad (Bill) at his tire business (Smoky Lake Tire & Battery) where some of the guys from the Smoky Lake Lions Club would also be in attendance. They would talk for hours at a time. They and the Town of Smoky Lake constituents encouraged and supported Don in the beginnings of his political career and he made everyone proud! Don always called everyone by their first name and listened to everyone's concerns, ideas, and he cared about the people. I was so glad before my mom (Jennie) passed away in August of this year, that I was able to tell her a bit about Don and it brought back good memories for her. May God give all of you peace and love at this difficult time.

I met Mr Mazankowski in the early 80s. What struck me about Mr Mazankowski is he gave me his full attention, listened to my comments on rail rates and gave a clear answer. Although 40 years later, I still recall him with warmth and admiration. Canada has lost a true gentleman.

The Hon. Don Mazankowski was the epitome of a politician and Canadian who could rise above political partisanship and demonstrate a quality all too rare in today’s world, the wisdom to find a way to collaborate and support a common goal.
I will always be grateful for his advice and support when, as Minister of Transport, I had to make transformative decisions.
I want to extend my condolences to Minister Mazankowski’s family on his passing. He made a tremendous contribution to Canada.
Sincerely
Hon. Doug Young

Don came the closest to being the ideal public man of anyone I have ever met. He was loyal, eminently reasonable and never fearful of change that he deemed to be for the general good of the country. He was a most effective administrator and a compassionate politician. He had friends in all walks of life.
It was a high honour for me to have worked and shared time with him in the Canadian House of Commons. He is a friend and colleague that I will never forget.

Dear Lorraine Boys and Families,
I am truly sorry to hear of the passing of Don.
I know he will be missed .
I also know he will be remembered for his contributions to his constituency, his province and country as well as around the world.
May his memories live on.
My parents shared many a happy and funny memory of their friends earlier years as a young man in Viking, Innisfree, and Vegreville, along with memories of his entry to politics. Even I remember some of those times.
Love to you all at this time. Rest In Peace Don
Sincere Regards

Don and Lorraine were great next door neighbors for 17 years. Don was always friendly and very interesting to talk to. What we specifically remember is Don shoveling our front sidewalk despite his busy political schedule. We had three little kids at home at the time and were busy in our professional careers, so time was always at a premium. That Don made time to help us out as neighbors shows on a factual level the kind of man he was. Always kind and helpful. We always think fondly of him.

Dear Mazankowski Family & Friends,
Like so many, I was sad to learn of Don’s passing. It was a privilege to have served with him in the House of Commons. While there were many differences and battles between political parties, Don had no enemies. He was liked and respected by all. He always had a moment for Members requiring his advice. He had a sense of humour, and his smile disarmed many.
Don was a great public servant, and his service should be an inspiration to especially younger Canadians.
My prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends.
May he now Rest In Peace.
